The U.S. Department of State has announced that it will begin accepting entries for the Diversity Visa Lottery DV-2024 Green-Card lottery effective October 5, 2022, 12:00 Noon (EDT) to November 8, 2022, 12:00 noon (EDT). Applicants or their spouses who were born in a country with historically low immigration rates to the U.S. are generally eligible to apply.
Basic eligibility requirements for the Green-Card Lottery, as set forth in the Department of State’s website link (listed at the bottom), are as follows:
- Applicants or their spouses who were born in a country with historically low immigration rates to the U.S. are eligible to apply
- And, for the current year, natives of the following countries are not eligible:
- Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea (South Korea), United Kingdom and its dependent territories (except Northern Ireland), Venezuela, and Vietnam
2. The Applicant must have:
- At least a high school education or its equivalent, defined as successful completion of a 12-year course of formal elementary and secondary education;
OR
- Two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation that requires at least two years of training or experience to perform. The Department of State will use the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*Net Online database to determine qualifying work experience
The DV Green-Card Lottery is a very time-sensitive program and requires strict compliance and adherence to specified eligibility requirements and instructions.
